The iPhone 16 Pro Max is my daily phone for 2026, despite not being the newest generation. The cameras are still fantastic, and as a case-less phone guy I prefer the tough titanium body versus the soft aluminum metal of the 17 Pro.
The iPhone 16 Pro (and Max) camera setup is as follows:
- Main – 48 MP Fusion, ƒ/1.78, sensor-shift OIS
- Wide – 48 MP, ƒ/2.2, 120° FOV
- Telephoto – 12 MP, ƒ/2.8, 5× optical zoom

Photos from all cameras looks generally sharp on the iPhone 16 Pro, in most lighting conditions. This is still a flagship level smartphone camera even a year after introduction. The iPhone 17 Pro look a slight step backwards on the telephoto camera with a downgrade to only 4X optical zoom. But the sensor was upgraded form 12MP to 48MP, so Apple claims it can do an effective 8X digital zoom. But you can be the judge, see my iPhone 17 Pro gallery.
